Join us to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D Day landings.

Here is an outline of how Coleford intends to commemoration this significant date:

D-Day 80th Commemoration – Thursday 6th June 2024

  • 8am – (if permitted) Mayor to read the D-Day 80 Proclamation (meant for town criers so we would need to seek permission in the absence of a town crier).  This will be videoed and shared online.
  • 11am – Local schools to engage with the Poems for Schools element.
  • 630pm – Bells ringing at the Clock Tower
  • 745-845pm – Brass band and local choir singing war time tunes
  • 9pm – Short service of Remembrance and reading of names of Coleford’s WWII fallen.  Clock tower turns red.
  • 915pm – Reading of The International Tribute and lighting of the Lamplight of Peace

Full details will be shared in the weeks leading up to the event.
